3D Digital Camera

What could be the next step in photography?
How to create a unique content for social media?

MOMENT 3D Camera allows users to capture three-dimensional images in order to simulate human binocular vision and take the volumetric live pictures. It has four lenses and takes four frames at once, which creates a unique  GIF image with the  time freezing effect.

Inspiration

I discovered old cameras such as Nishika N8000 and Nimslo from the 1980s made by various companies with the same idea of stereography. They were quadrascopic (four lenses) cameras designed to produce four half-frame images from a click of the shutters. Lenticular prints could be made from the negatives. 3D photography blends two or more photos together in an attempt to emulate the way we see dimensions in the real world, giving the viewer a sense or illusion of depth and movement.

Unfortunately, the demand for these products was low due to people losing interest while waiting for the prints, which could take weeks and by some accounts, months to return to the consumer.

You have to understand, these cameras were introduced before we knew anything about GIFs or JPEG files!

Challenge

Is it possible to find a place for old technologies in the modern world?

Today, these retro cameras are sought by people who are interested in photography at a professional level. You need special skills to use a film camera, processing photos and know how to work in Photoshop. What else you need to remember is that not all frames turn out successful and the film itself and photo processing cost money. Here is an example of unique pictures that can come out.

Key idea

The MOMENT 3D Digital Camera automatically creates a remarkable three-dimensional image from several frames with one click of the shutter. Get instant results and edit photos straightaway after shooting. Upload content to social networks or directly to your mobile phone.

It has 4 lenses each shooting an object with a slight change in angle to recreate a human vision. The processor inside combines frames into one and shows the photo on the touch screen.
Touch Screen

The vertical form factor of the screen is determined by the shooting format (camera takes only vertical photos), which is perfect for today's social media and mobile phones.
Viewfinder and monitor switching

Distance sensitivity enables the eye sensor to switch the touch display to the viewfinder automatically when you bring your eye or an object near it. During the slideshow the view screen is turned off.
Buttons

My goal was to design a user-friendly product  with the  essential feautures. I used the physical buttons that are most often used by the majority: ON/OFF switch, shutter button, shooting mode dial, zoom wheel. Other specific functions may include the camera display.

On the back left side there are function buttons with hidden LED display: flash suppressing button, self timer button, sync button. On the other side there are delete and menu buttons with controller.
